About

From a Former Hobby to Developing a Berry Cultivation

“What started as packing fresh berries in their kitchen has grown into a countrywide operation.”

Our Story

The story of Hillcrest Berries Orchards Farm is one of passion, perseverance, and a love for the land. It all began when Raymond O’Grady, a former human resources and public relations professional, and Betty O’Grady, an academic with a background in French and Francophone African writing, embarked on a journey to turn their hobby into a thriving business.

What started as packing fresh berries in their kitchen has grown into a countrywide operation, supplying fresh and frozen berries, jams, condiments, and sauces, while also exporting to niche markets. Yet, at the heart of their endeavor remains the farm, where visitors can indulge in the unparalleled setting and savor the flavors from the restaurant terrace.

Raymond’s enthusiasm for berry cultivation was unwavering, and he dedicated himself to expanding his knowledge through trial and error, devouring literature, and visiting orchards around the globe. His passion and determination have earned him recognition as an acknowledged authority in the field, and South African food lovers owe him a debt of gratitude for introducing them to the world of berry bliss beyond strawberries and cape gooseberries.
